Dog Friendly Beaches in Bournemouth

dog-freindly-beaches-brooklands-hotelAs a dog friendly hotel and b&b in Bournemouth, we think that there is nothing better than watching your pup revel in the beautiful sands of a Bournemouth beach. However in the summer, the number of beaches that dogs are welcome on are reduced. Not to worry, as a dog-friendly hotel we have the scoop on all the dog-friendly beaches! Check out which beaches we recommend for a day out with your dog:

Bournemouth Beach – Bournemouth, Alum Chine and Southbourne

If you’re interested in a beach holiday in the UK with your dog, Brooklands Hotel is conveniently located right next to the beach! The main beach in Bournemouth is situated right off the town centre. With the beautiful Bournemouth Pier located right in the middle, it’s a beach that is used more for recreation and sunbathing but a great location to begin your walk.

The rules outline that dog walkers must keep dogs on a lead from 1st May to 30th September but dogs can be let off the lead in certain areas:

  • Border with Poole to Groyne 3 (Alum Chine beach office)
  • Groynes 5 to 7 (Middle Chine to Durley Chine)
  • Groynes 32 to 41 (Fisherman’s Walk to Southbourne)
  • Groyne 45 to Hengistbury Head

Christchurch – Mudeford Sandbank Beach

A beautiful white sand beach that circles Christchurch harbour, there are plenty of activities such as surfing, swimming, canoeing and jet skiing available as well as shops and café. Dogs are welcome but bins are not provided. If you start your walk at Bournemouth pier head left and you’ll go through Boscombe and Southbourne then arrive at Christchurch.

Hengistbury West Beach

One and a half kilometre long, separating Poole Bay and Christchurch Bay, the pebble Heginstbury West beach is a site of Special Scientific Interest and most of the headland remains untouched. You can access the beach via land train from the Hungry Horse café or using the pathways at Southbourne promenade. Activities available include swimming and windsurfing, as well as a beach café to stop off to catch your breath!
